The purpose of this project is to evaluate the student’s understanding of human physiology, interrelated body systems, and the role of homeostasis in health and disease, with direct application to nursing assessment and patient care.
Project Description: Students will select ONE body system covered in Anatomy II and analyze:
Normal physiological function Regulation and homeostasis Common disorders affecting the system Nursing implications for assessment, monitoring, and safety Body System Options (Choose ONE)
Examples include (but are not limited to):
Only systems covered in Anatomy & Physiology II may be selected.
Project Format: PowerPoint Presentation
20 slides (excluding title and references) Oral presentation Required Project Components
- Introduction
Overview of the selected system Importance of the system in maintaining homeostasis Purpose of the project 2. Normal Physiology
Key physiological processes Regulation mechanisms (e.g., feedback loops) Interaction with other body systems 3. Homeostasis & Regulation
How the system maintains internal balance Hormonal, neural, or chemical regulation Consequences of imbalance 4. Common Disorders or Dysfunction
At least two common conditions affecting the system Brief explanation of altered physiology Impact on overall health 5. Diagnostic & Assessment Considerations
Common diagnostic tests or assessments Relevant lab values or measurements Interpretation at a basic nursing level 6. Nursing Implications
Nursing assessments and monitoring Patient safety considerations Relevance to medications, treatments, or procedures 7. Reflection
What the student learned How understanding physiology supports safe nursing practice 8. Evidence-Based Sources
Minimum 3 scholarly or academic sources (2022-2026) APA 7th edition In-text citations required Academic Integrity
