• Performance will be assessed using HBS Grading Criteria (Rubric)
• Feedback for improvement will be given in writing via your Canvas module site within 4 weeks of submission
• Lateness Penalty: For each day or part day up to five days after the published deadline, coursework relating to modules submitted late will have the numeric grade reduced by 10 grade points until or unless the numeric grade reaches the minimum pass mark (UG 40). Where the numeric grade awarded for the assessment is less than the minimum pass mark no lateness penalty will be applied. If the coursework is submitted more than 5 days after the published deadline, it will not be marked and a grade of zero will be awarded. Please note: Referred coursework submitted after the published deadline will be awarded a grade of zero (0).”

Detailed Brief for Individual / Team Assignment – CW1

THERE ARE TWO PARTS TO THIS ASSIGNMENT

Part A

THE STUDENTS NEED TO CHOOSE ONE OF THE THREE EMERGING ISSUES IN OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT AND EXPLAIN HOW THE CHOSEN ISSUE MAY BE ADDRESSED.

1. Supply chains face ongoing global challenges, including the risk of fraud following recent disruptions. From the perspective of an operations manager, explain how technology, such as blockchain, can be applied to reduce or prevent fraud within supply chains.
2. One of the biggest operational risks today (from 2020) is the lack of inventory, caused by shortages of important materials and components across different industries. As a manufacturer, explain how you could work with suppliers to overcome these shortages. Also, discuss how sourcing strategies might need to change in response.
3. Organisations are facing strong pressure to reduce their environmental impact. Companies in the private sector, especially, must take serious steps to cut carbon emissions from their operations. Your task is to design two strategies that both reduce the harmful effects of Business activities on the environment and make the company’s products more attractive to consumers who care about climate change.

Part B

You should create a summary poster of the key findings and recommendations of your report

Additional instructions:

1. Your report must contain an introduction of what the report will cover, the background into the problem, a critical analysis of the findings, recommendations, and a conclusion.
2. The poster should contain a title page, a summary of your key findings, your recommendations, and a conclusion.

4. You should strictly avoid adding redundant information or defining basic operations management concepts and terminologies.

However, please note that copy/pasting figures (without citing the source) is forbidden, and you will be penalised for that. In a nutshell, if you want to use a chart or demonstration or anything visual, you must draw it yourself and cite the source (no snapshots or copy/pasting).
